Inversions Still Popular in 2015

Even though the US. Treasury Department instituted policies in September 2014 to curtail inversions, US-based companies still purchase outside-USA firms primarily to relocate their headquarters to that foreign country to avoid the high USA corporate tax rates. For example, in August 2015, the Deerfield, Illinois firm, CF Industries Holdings purchased a Netherlands-based OCI NV in a deal valued at $6 billion. Other US-based companies that moved their headquarters offshore in 2015 by acquiring another firm include Arris Group, Cyberonics, and Pozen, Inc. A larger US firm, Monsanto, based in St. Louis, is currently pursuing a $5 billion takeover of Swiss rival Syngenta AG, partly or largely for tax reasons.
